[IBC] natal plum
So.
Now that I have one, I'd appreciate any tips on the care and feeding of a newly transplanted tree. All I had available was native soil when I dug it up. I moved it this morning -- with NO further roots work -- to bonsai soil in a larger pot. I plan on keeping it fairly dry for a while. I have Sabrina's essay on Carissa from the BCI website. There's little about it in Leizsc. . . . 's Indoor Bonsai and nothing about it in any other book I have (though I haven't looked at the BBG's tropical booklet yet). Suggestions? Warnings? (I've been gorging myself on the fruit for the past several days, and wonder if it will fruit up here in the "frigid north". ;-) It blooms and fruits all year round in St. Petersburg.) Jim: I've been growing Carissa for about 15 years. Greenhouse in winter,
semi-shade in summer. I keep it on the dry side, but soak it well when I do water. The leaves tend to "stretch" their petioles, so they need constant pinching in order to develop clouds. It is a very forgiving plant, recovering well from winter cold, cracked branches and some degree of general neglect. I think you'll enjoy growing it.
