[IBC] books with boxwood included?
Hello everyone!
I have become very interested in Boxwood bonsai over the last year. There is limited information on the internet on boxwood for bonsai, and even more limited: Kingsville Box. Are there any good books out there which give a section to boxwood for bonsai? I mean more than a page, with detailed information like one might find for elm. I know I am asking much, but I figured there might JUST be a book out there so I wanted to you all! Sam: Try checking out the BCI Index of Bonsai Species. You'll find helpful information
on boxwood at: http://bonsai-bci.com/species/boxwood.html Alan Walker, Lake Charles, LA, USA http://LCBSBonsai.org http://bonsai-bci.com =============================== Sam Williams wrote: Hello everyone! [IBC] books with boxwood included?
Hi Sam.
Hoped to see you at Richmond Bonsai Society's summer picnic... to catch-up on your successes and failures. Kingsville boxwood should be rewarding of your effort, but it is relatively expensive material at large sizes because it grows so slowly. In our local club, Bruce Stoneman has demonstrated remarkable skill with large Kingsville boxwood. The size that you choose will have a lot to do with options. With a few leaves on the tiniest plant, you can suggest much. On a large Kingsville box, recognizing options to place & visually enhance dense clouds of foliage and maintain them is important as well as a good trunk line and nebari. The material screams for attention because it looks so good when carefully attended. What specific publication(s) on elm satisfy you for information that you'd hope to find on boxwood? That might be a key to answering what you seek. I bet Potomac Bonsai Association's "Clippings" editor has covered Kingsville box in detail due to Chuck & Ginny Byrd raising and selling them to PBA enthusiasts for many years. PBA articles often discuss work on a species of plant over years of effort. BTW, "PBA Clippings" are now available through email attachment with color photos-- it is a great format & inexpensive to distribute! I think Adobe even supports word searches within the document. Dale has bought and perhaps even dug a few of the Byrds' boxwoods. One of Dale's big 'Karuma' pots was in the RBS summer auction. I was pleased to purchase a well-used but intact companion pot by Max Braverman. The auctions always draw some great material-- two satsuki bonsai (among many others) were especially appealing. Best wishes, Chris... C. Cochrane, , Richmond VA USA ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sam Williams" To: Sent: Wednesday, July 09, 2003 12:24 PM Subject: [IBC] books with boxwood included?
