Default Mini Mugo

I have one of those mini Mugo pines, 'Slowmound,' which is finally starting to
look like something, after I first killed a few. There are a couple of lower
branches which need to be shortened. Of course by now I can see where all the
buds are. Will it make any difference if I prune back a few secondary branches
now, rather than waiting till spring?
