Default [IBC] Ficus Repot Now?

I'm pretty sure this is the time to repot a ficus (I'm in Zone 5), but I
wanted to be sure. Wouldn't pruning the roots now, at a time when the
foliage most needs the nutrients and moisture form the roots, put the tree
at risk? Why is a ficus different than evergreens and deciduous?

Also, would I have to keep the ficus in the shade for a few weeks after
root pruning?

Thanks,

Jim
