Azaleas - for my yard and maybe later for bonsai
I've picked up some nice looking, though very tall and leggy azaleas
that i'd like to put in the ground for now. How late can i prune them back hard and still get blooms in the spring? I'm in Zone 7. |

[IBC] Azaleas - for my yard and maybe later for bonsai
I've picked up some nice looking, though very tall and leggy
azaleas that i'd like to put in the ground for now. How late can i prune them back hard and still get blooms in the spring? I'm in Zone 7. No later than NOW! But you shouldn't expect a heavy bloom the first year after planting, anyway. I'd trim it now, and wait for blooms the year after next. It's not particularly healthy for the bush to bloom the year after such a late planting, anyway. Your plants will be expending a LOT of energy just for survival, being planted this later in the summer.
