Pyracomeles = Pyracantha x Chaenomeles, but I can't be more specific.

From what little I know of plant biology/nomenclature, this plant shouldn't
exist as a distinct species. P

A 'species' refers to a group of plants that are reproductively isolated?

It is NOT a species. It is a crossed hybrid, and it is sterile.
Each of the parents is a species (presumably), but their
offspring is in sexual limbo. ;-)

Bart . . . there are several people in Southwest Florida that have large
Pyrocomeles as bonsai. They make absolutely stunning weeping style trees. Jim
Smith in Vero Beach, Florida is the only nurseryman that I know that has this
plant available for purchase.
