Default Thyme Bonsai?

Anyone here every tried a thyme specie as bonsai? I was just browsing
Froogle yesterday and came across a thyme plant. Thyme has small
leaves.. and a nice scent. I never exactly seen a nice sized thyme
plant so I dunno it it can actually be trained as bonsai, but if it
could.. the size of those leaves will sure help the scale the size of
the plant.

Most thyme plants are creepers and do not produce a
woody trunk. Other herbs like rosemary and sage do
get woody trunks and can be used for a bonsai.
Problem is that compared to other materials like maple
and pines, herb bonsai are short lived. This means
they might last for 10 years or so, but not 100 years.
It depends on how you want to spend your time.

With your location, I would stick to the tropicals
that grow well in you area rather than trying to find
something new.

I got two $6.00 pots of ficus benjemina shoots (about
6-8 shoots per pot) at Home Depot. I put a rock
between the trunks an tied the trunks in place with
twine. I am hoping for a rock clasping ficus in a
couple of years.
