You can buy an expensive substance that looks like and behaves like chalk.
Like from the white cliffs of Dover. If you draw a line on concrete, ants
will be loathe to cross it. Being cheap and skeptical, I just used chalk. It
is not the cure all.

absorbs chemicals deposited by ants that other ants follow.

Oh and for flying insects I do recommend yellow sticky traps and fly
paper. I have it all over my garden and I have to put in new ones
every week since they work so well.

For environmentally safe flying insect control use the Rid-Max Fly
Traps. They are dry, reusuable, no liquid mess, no smell, no
chemicals/pesticides, etc. We use them all around our farm and would
not be able to enjoy our garden outdoors if not for these traps.
