Default What Animals Eat Green Tomatoes ?

I have seen deer grazing in my green tomatoes more than once. I always plant
more than I need so they'll get some too. Look around for sign, their hoof
prints and "poop" are distinctive ...Gin (delurking)

My money is on groundhog. If you have any borrows within sight could be
them especially if it's been dry in your area. For removal; trap, poison,
or shoot. Good luck!

I don't think I've seen this before. My tomatoes are getting big, but
still mostly hard and green. In the last couple mornings I've found
half-eaten tomatoes a few feet from the bushes.

We've got lots of squirrels, and a few raccoons and possums here.

No birds larged enough to carry a tomato.

Any ideas ?

Deer droppings are....................raisinettes................ .easy to spot.

Never had deer go for tomatoes tho.

Woodchucks LOVE green tomatoes.** And instead of just eating a whole one,
they often grab several and just take a bite or two. Like chipmunks with
strawberries.
If you get out early, you may still be able to see evidence of the bite print.
That might give you a clue to the species of culprit.
Has to be before the fruit dries out and collapses.

I had deer eat tomatoes, beans and peppers, including jalepinos. Deer are just overgrown rodents.

This is also true. Groundgogs will take a few bites and move on, whether tomatoes or apples or anything else they can get at.

Between birds and chipmonks, one barely stands a chance of getting any ripe strawberries.

perhaps put a tray of sand or something thicker by your plants to capture
paw prints?

Good idea!

Funny!

Squirrels eat mine, red and green. See previous post. Gonna do the hot
pepper power trick tomorrow. Greens are all I got left.

Deer did that to some of my tomatoes. They messed up about 1/2 bushel before
I caught them in the act.
