You cabbage ladies got me thinking, so I went on a
search. I found this: news:alt.binaries.food .

That's weird. When I click on the above I'm directed to a group called
alt.binaries.font and there's just a bunch of misc crap posted there.
Additionally when I go to Tools and search food this is what I see:

Send an email message to your NNTP provider, ask them to add the group.

Probably

I use giganews, too, so you should be able to access the group.

After several correspondences with Giganews where I disclosed to them that
if I go on their website I *can* see alt.binaries.food, one of their techs
installed the same version of windows mail that I use.

He could see it.

They are now suggesting that I remove and reinstall my newsreader program as
it is possible something has become corrupted in my system.

We'll see.

In the meantime he referred me to a free newsreader program which I have
downloaded and installed to read posts on alt.binaries.food. It works, if a
little awkwardly, compared to my preferred system. But it is a reader only
and I cannot post with it.

Well that's half true. I CAN post text if I want to comment on somebody
else's post. But I can't post my own JPEG's or any other binaries. The
name of the program is Grabit. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it but it
didn't cost much.

Try a different server, there are many, I use Agent Premium News which
is Easynews. $2.95 a month for 13GB which is 3x what I need.
I also use Giganews because it is included in my Earthlink account
but it doesn't include ABF

If you can't post what you want it isn't any good. There are a lot of
freeware newsreaders but the Microsoft or Mac standard readers are fine
unless you want a lot of huge binaries.
