Default NEED HELP with new plants !!

Xref: news7 rec.gardens:215676

Hi everyone ! I live in N. Indiana . Was at the garden center today and
couldn't resist to buy some plants . I have two Bartlett pear trees,
one pink Dogwood ( 7 ft tall) and two Weigelas.Their rootballs are
wrapped in burlap and/or plastic. Now my question : Can I go ahead and
plant them right away ? The weather report for the coming nights calls
for frost in the 20ies and 30ies . Will the frost hurt the plants ?
Should I wait with planting them or can I go ahead and plant them ?? I
would really appreciate your help very much !!!
Thanks ! Rosie z5

Go ahead and plant now. The sooner, the better, actually. They are dormant
now, and once you get them in the ground, they will break dormancy when the
time is right for them (perhaps a bit later than already established
specimens, don't be alarmed if they leaf out later than other ones in your
neighborhood). Water them in well after planting, and add a layer of mulch.
You may want to stake the trees--loosely--for the first six months or so.

You can leave the burlap on if it is 'real' burlap, but pull it back from
the edges once you have the plant in the hole. The plastic will need to be
removed, which is sort of a tricky business. My method is to work it off
after placing the rootball in the hole.

Cheers,
Sue
