That's in the neighborhood of $150 billion dollars a year unaccounted for. Trimming THAT cash cow would go a long way toward restoring solvency to our Federal Government, but it ain't never gonna happen during a Republican administration, with all that that party "owes" to the military industrial establishment which pays huge sums every four years to buy the candidates that protect it. Yeah, Republican economic principles - that IS a laugh.......... Greg I got it figured out. You write plant descriptions for gardening catalogs, don't you? ;-) zhan Actually, Zhan, I think Greg made some excellent points. The problem with huge military build up and spending is that somebody decides that it must be used to keep the cash cow (and popularity) flowing. I couldn't have described the Republican Party's priorities better myself. ;-) John |

No mention of the unaccounted for billions Clinton threw a Haiti. I agree the Democratic military policy is memorable. A case in point is Somalia when Clinton used the military as meals on wheels and refused to send adequate defensive equipment and we got out asses stomped by a rag tag bunch. Greg left out the part where the GAO found billions is WFA in various social programs. As for military build up. It must have slipped Greg's mind during the Clinton years the US Navy had ships that couldn't steam past the breakwater without sailors cross decking. Wonder what the reason was for the flood of non-reenlistments. (A small soapbox ;- ) The reason Operation Iraqi Freedom has gone the way it has is because of the superior coalition training, equipment and technology. The opposition had enough munitions to send our young people to hell half a dozen times over. Sure Bush gave Gen. Franks everything he wanted and I'm grateful. And I'll bet those that have loved ones over there are grateful too. The first major tenet of the government is to protect its citizens. (Here is one point Rush and I agree on.) So I figure the government can protect my skin from foreign attack, I'll take care of my health and well being. If there is any money left over you can have it for your social (zennie do not say socialist programs - John and Greg might get pi**ed ;- ) Speaking of social programs and human rights. Why is it the democrats who pride their selves on concern for their fellow man haven't sounded a peep about what Saddam has done to his people? Must be a lot of money to be made on domestic social programs. But never fear the republicans will ride to the rescue. (In conclusion and the most important point) My femininity won't let me forget a social snub. The Democrats have never invited me to a single Inaugural Ball. zhan |

I'm definitely not. We are just poles apart from you on where we want our tax dollars spent. I like my tax money spent on schools, libraries, the arts, health, and infrastructure, in other words, helping people. Conservatives like to see tax money spent on the military, weapons, and corporations. It's a matter of perspective. BTW, I received a big tax refund this year because of the horrible economy. It gave me a good feeling to realize that not much of my money was spent on Dubya's war. VBG I like you too much to argue. Should we call it off? John |
