Default Shady Bed

Hi All,

I have a small shady bed behind a large laurel on the east wall of my garage. The rear garden faces due south. The soil if mainly clay and I am in West Yorkshire. I'd like suggestions on what I could plant to thrive and give colour? Not sure if I am allowed to attach a photo will will try.
