Default Rose of Sharon

We transplanted several Rose of Sharon from a friend's yard into a garden at
the local elem. school. They quickly dropped all of their leaves. Are they
goners?

Unlikely, since you can grow them easily from a bare stick stuck in the
ground.

Scratch the bark with your fingernail. If it's green under the
scratch, it's alive. Try bending a branch. If it breaks with a
"snap," it's dead. ROS are very easy to grow. They drop their
leaves in the fall.
