After a few years of relatively unscheduled gardening, I have
started to keep a log.

But it is just a text file that looks like:

29 December 07 - Added epsom salts around tomatoes.

2 November 07 - Planted capsicums.

7 December 07 - Fruits appearing on tomato plants.

14 December 07 - First female flowers on zucchini.

info.)

Does anybody have ideas to offer on a better format? Like maybe
a database row/field type of thing?

No, you don't have to create a Web page. You can to this in Word, in a
two column table with a separate row for each date and a new file for
each month, each two months (as mine is), each calendar quarter, etc.

It does help to note the weather (my left column). Also note
observations and not merely what you do.

When you have a follow-on entry, be sure to indicate a prior date for
the same issue. That helps to recreate complete information on it.

If this is for your own use and will not be public, you don't have to
indicate the botanical names of plants. I only indicate them in my
public diary in case there are readers in other areas, where the common
name for a plant might be different or where a common name refers to a
different plant.

I do not think you were addressing me. However, I have some info on organic
gardening in the Philadelphia area. Jim passed away and his wife moved.
Unbelievable that the new owners planted turf grass over the garden. I
wonder if they had a clue as to what that area had been used for. Many many
years of building the soil to end up with turf grass. It makes me cry.
Some where I have more information on their garden like the crops they
planted. I will look. When him and his wife were alive they had the most
wonderful garden I have ever seen. I met them because I did their tree
work. They were unique. I am going to try to get ahold of his wife some
how and ask her to write for the website.
