A plant named Ruellie brittannia? (=Ruellia brittoniana)
Something like that.
What you are looking for is Ruellia brittoniana Leonard (Journ. Wash. Acad. Sci. 31: 96 (1941); emended Fernald, Rhodora 47: 7 (1945)). The plant is named for American botanist Nathanial Lloyd Britton of the New York Botanical Garden who wrote a popular flora of the US. There are now a number of cultivars of the species available with flowers in purple, pink or white. http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/c...a/ruellia.html http://www.rareflora.com/ruelliabritpurfountpic.htm http://www.cherokeecuttings.com/ruellia.htm JJ wrote in message ... Hi All, I was visiting a nursery and there was an empty spot with a sign that said "Ruellie Brittannia." Of course I immediately thought of the anthem "Rule Britannia" and wrote the plant name down for further research. Alas, google doesn't come up with any matches and suggests "Rule Britannia" :-) I imagine there is a typo in "Ruellie Brittannia." Anybody know what the correct spelling is? Thanks Jay |
