i was told that its not good to plant or transplant new tree later
than june 1st. is this a true statement? i have some trees left to
transplant that i bought and im worried that i may be too late to get
them in the ground. is there a cut off for when to plant and
transplant trees?

I can assure you that trees cannot read calendars. You can plant whenever you
want so long as the ground is soft enough to permit digging.

Suitable planting times depend a lot on where one is located. Generally,
planting of larger plants (trees, good sized shrubs) should be done when
the plant is not in active growth and temperatures are cool - fall
through early spring, if your ground is workable and weather permits.
This reduces the likelihood of transplant shock and the need for constant
watering. That doesn't mean they can't be planted at other times - just
that additional care will have to be taken. Even in my climate of very
mild summer temperatures, it is not recommended that planting be
undertaken in summer. May be best to get them in the ground ASAP and
watch the watering carefully going forward.

Ageed, However container grown trees are much more forgiving than bare root
plants which almost have to be dormant when planted. Ther are however
exceptions to every rule.

June 1st is just an arbitrary time, meaning that after that the tree will
require extra watering and care to carry it through the hot summer months.
Here in SC, that date is usually set as April 1st. However, if you're like
most gardeners, you plant and transplant when you have the time, regardless
of what the calendar says. Some plants may resent it a little and some not
at all, if you give it extra care for playing fast and loose with the
seasons.
