Weed Feed Time
"Paul E. Lehmann" wrote in message ...
When is the best time to apply weed and feed to the lawn? In Central Maryland Zone 6 Does the stuff really work? On the side of the bag that doesn't have pretty pictures are instructions. Turn the bag over and read them. |

Weed Feed Time
You are probably going to be in the late April early May time frame....Any
Weed & Feed does not treat the soil, they are contact herbicides, so the weed has to be up to kill it. Crabgrass Preventer is a soil barrier that lets about nothing grow through it...Broadleaf weeds sporadically are popping up here in Richmond, VA. but he ideal timeframe will be (for me) when I can't stand them anymore which will be about mid April.....Find one that is a powder, not a pellet, cut your grass one day and apply the W&F the next morning when the dew is still there. Think of a damp spinach leaf... Which sticks better croutons or pepper? Most of the pellets will drop off in the soil, doing absolutely nada, wasting your time and $$...Powdered types may be a little more expensive, but you will get more bang for your buck... You should be treating with a Crabgrass Pre-m up there now. Then follow with the W&F later as noted. "Paul E. Lehmann" wrote in message ... When is the best time to apply weed and feed to the lawn? Apply weed killers when weeds are young and actively growing. A dry sunny day is best. Spot treatment is better in that your grass is not "punished" and you are using less chemical yet the weeds are treated. Years ago, the procedure was to apply lawn fertilizer. Wait 2-3 weeks, then spot treat the weeds. The idea is that the fertilizer puts weeds into active growth which is when the weed killer has the best effectiveness. |
