Default Does Brush-B-Gone Kill grass? Wild Violets.

I am trying to kill wild violets that are taking over the lawn. The
instruction mention that it could kill my grass, but other post I read on
the news groups say it ok to spray on the grass. Anyone tried it before
on their grass?

You need to read the directions. Looking at Ortho's page on this product it
clearly states not to use it for weed control on lawns.

Ortho's Weed B Gone works fine on violets and it won't kill
your grass. Also, I would think any weed 'n feed type of
grass fertilizer would work too and make your grass look
better in the process.

No different than dollar weed. A little here and there in the right
places has a good look, however its not long until its all dollar weed
and no more grass....... We have some weeds that do not get over
populated or spread, in the one section of our flower bed and shrubbs
around the house, and to be perfecvtly onest, they look good, but the
wife wants them gone, but I win that argument, so they have been in
the same place for over 10 years.........but she don;t call me a nut
or moron because of what "I" like. Why be such a hard ass on someone
that has his / her own property and wants the violets gone...........I
know folks that plant kudzu, but not me. I don't want it, but you
may........to each his own as long as it does not cost me $$ to
support what they want, all the power to them in what makes them
happy.

I found a place that reclaims unclaimed and damaged materials and they
have a huge loading dock packed full of huge hoppers of Scotts Weed &
Feed. Was told to load some up and haul it away as its going to be
dumped before the summer is up and its not worth the price to recycle
and repackage it all................Best I know its been there for
close to two years now. The oter rows of hoppers h=gaot wet from rain
but the majority of it is still granular and perfectly good. Thing is
if I killed all my weeds in my lawn I would not have much green
left.......so I guess on some folks thoughts I'm a moron..........oh
yea, I used to get concerned with moss etc growing inmy lawn, but got
used to it as well, andI think it adds somewhat of a different look,
it does not require cutting, keeps me out of mud, and its green!

You're a nut. What sort of moron freaks out over violets in their grass.

That's what I thought when I first moved up north and there were violets
in the lawns. I thought it was wonderful -- I even transplanted some
into the flower beds. Once the violets know that you want them there,
they don't even have pretty flowers anymore, they immediately revert to
little white flowers that are not exactly ugly but they're not pretty.
And they will spread and kill the grass. I pull them up now; they are
not bothersome enough to use herbicides on them.

I had a similar experience with wild strawberry. I noticed a small red
berry at the edge of my rear lawn. I though it was quite novel and that
perhaps I was privileged to have the plant make a home in the lawn. Five
years later the stuff has taken over the lawn and is working its way into my
perennial beds. I also have wild violets that I believe are the result of
my neighbor's attempt to create a wildflower meadow by dispersing a few cans
of wildflower seeds. Of course she didn't get the romantic, carefree meadow
that was pictured on the can and her husband decided the best approach to
"gardening" would be the periodic application of Round-Up to their entire
back yard. I kid you not! What makes things worse is that our yards are on
a considerable slope and now they have an erosion problem. A massive tree
was undermined and fell two years ago during a storm. The tree narrowly
missed their house, fell across their property and onto mine. It took down
two of my trees and now a third one is dead. I have spent the last few days
removing dead branches from other trees in its path. Because of the rapid
run-off of water resulting from the defoliation of the hillside, the
drainage ditch that goes to the creek behind our houses and which straddles
the property lines has gone from a gentle wide stream to an 6-8 foot deep
ditch that is undermining the trees along its path. And to think it all
started with some wild violets and progressed on to erosion due to the
indiscriminate use of herbicides!

The package will state that not to use on lawns. I had wild violets
in my lawn too. I used a foam RoundUp and dabbed the foam onto each
leaf. I treated an area about 200 sq feet in a couple hours.
Worked great. Weed-B-Gone was not very effective on wild violets.

Just for clarity, the OP was talking about BRUSH B GONE.
