Default Day Lilies killed by red bugs

My poor day lilies had the life sucked out of them by small bright red
flying bugs. I've had 6 years of success with their lovely
blooms--this was the first year they were infested! The leaves die
and the plant falls over. I thought day lilies were pest resistent!
Does anyone know what these terrible (yet pretty) bugs are and how to
avoid them in the future? Thanks.

If they are lilies, you might have asparagus beetles:

This site has info on other daylily pests:

What puzzles me is why the one plant with all parts poisonous to humans
(Datura) is also the one in that corner of the garden that slugs adore.
Finally dribbled a chemical barrier of Sluggo and hope that will disssuade
them.

Milkweed is another example of a toxic plant that some insects adore. The
slugs (which I realize are NOT insects) have been eating my digitalis - also
toxic.

Don't eat them slugs!

No fear...although it is a point of local pride to eat anything that doesnt eat
you first: alligator (too greasy and fishy for me) the dread nutria, a sort of
cross between a beaver and a large aquatic rat with long orange front teeth
(not bad, a little like a fat rabbit---but until I can buy it in civilized
packaging like chicken I refuse to take a whole skinned and gutted carcase home
and pick out all the little bones again} and so on.

Maybe it gives them palpitations but they just can't tell you!

the ladybugs arent killing the lilies, they are eating the aphids that are sucking on
your day lilies. I noticed this last two years that the peonies no longer have a lot
of sap oozing from the buds... they were covered with the ladybugs chomping down on
the aphids. Ingrid
