Oak tree problems
I have several oak trees that seem to be splitting in cetain areas of
the tree trunk. Most of the spliting starts at the ground and go about to the first branch, which is at 5 ft. There is about eight trees with this problem some are worse than others. The trees are in north eastern ohio on a farm and most are 15 years old. If anyone has any idea what this might be, please respond quickly Thanks Chuckie grow zone 5 |

Perhaps this will help
http://www.treesforyou.org/Planting/...lthy/trunk.htm Do a google search of "tree trunk splitting." Splitting is a common problem in the Midwest where a spring or fall day's warm sun with trees still in full growth may be followed by a cold front and extremely rapid drop of temperature. In the most extreme case in Iowa the bark of apple trees actually exploded. This was in the 1940s when temperatures dropped some 50 degrees in 3 hours. Fortunately this doesn't happen often.
