New growth finally showing
Weel, I had just about given up until i saw a new growth of a leaf at the
base of my Dend and Phal. The Dend is outside in shade on my patio and the phal is indoors. Now what? |

With the Den. just keep growing it. With the Phal, is the new leaf also at the base of the plant as your wording implies? Of course Phals usually make new leaves at the top and they make new roots and flower spikes from the bottom. If you are definitely seeing a leaf at the bottom, that's not a real bad thing. It will eventually turn into a 2nd plant. Some Phals do this easier than others. I think they are more likely to do it if they are not getting enough light to produce a new flower spike. They produce more leaves instead. Something to consider. Steve |

Its getting north east light from kitchen shelf over a saucer with small pebbles and water for humidity. Now, the days are getting shorter, so there won't be much light as before. Should i fertilize with the new growth showing? Some say, use fish emulsion....weekly or monthly? |

I'd continue with the fertilizer you normally use. It sounds like your plant is happy. As far as fish emulsion is concerned, I'd be cautious with plants grown inside. That stuff is not pleasant on the olfactory senses! Diana |

She uses it only while the plants are outside for the summer. I've never used it so I can't say more about it. I'm a little concerned that you might not be giving your Phal enough light. Some do manage to rebloom with lower light so a north east window might do it. If yours fails to start a new flower spike this fall or early winter, you might try to find a brighter spot and hope for better results nest year. Steve |
