Default Uppermost leaf problem in a Phal

Post your picture. That would help.

I have a Doritaenopsis Sinica Knight that I bought several
months ago. It was a pretty unhappy plant when I bought it but
I got it home, gave it a good soaking and it has rebounded
marvelously.

However, when I bought it the uppermost leaf (out of 3 leaves
in total) was small and had a black scar down the center. I
figured it was damaged in transport to the retailer and have
left it alone to see if this scar is going to spread (which I
assume it would do if it were diseased). The leaf was doing
fine, green almost everywhere else but in the central scar
where it was black surrounded by yellow. Just recently though
it has turned yellow/orange/purple-ish and looks like a bottom
leaf does when it is going to go yellow and mushy and then fall
off.

As I was checking out this leaf I noticed that the plant is
sending up another spike too. It had two spikes when I bought
it, stayed in flower for, gosh, 4 or 5 months (it is still in
flower on one of the two spikes) and now if planning on
flowering again (is this the death knell spike, I wonder?).

My question is whether the top leaf dying is a big problem. I
know with other plants there is apical dominance so I wonder if
this top leaf dying is going to totally screw things up for the
plant. I have the plant in a west-facing window but I live in
Canada and although we are getting numerous hours of daylight
(almost 15 hrs a day now) it is still relatively weak sunlight
and the two other leaves look and feel exactly as they should,
including the bigger one below this ailing leaf which gets as
much if not more light (because of surface area) than this
little damaged one.

If anyone is interested I can post a pic to ABPO (assuming the
leaf doesn't fall off before tomorrow when I have better light
with which to take a good picture).

I sure hope this isn't a death knell spike coming up because I
think the plant is still looking pretty good other than this
one dying leaf.

So, to make a long story short my question is whether Dtps have
apical dominance such that a top leaf dying will cause problems
for the plant.

Thanks for any help.

- Sandy
