Well, actually someone did opine that almost any hardwood charcoal is
probably OK, so that takes care of that one. Any bark that is relatively free of oils, tars, or other chemicals that might be harmful probably CAN be used, but it may not hold up well. Hi,
I use charcoal for vandaceous plants. Catts. love bark or fern bark. They root almost instantly in fern bark. I use fir bark mixed with compost, fine charcoal and perlite for terrestrials.
