some really cheap online and then was floored to find out the shipping

chuckle If you don't mind them being shaped like " 357 Magnum
Bullets", this place only charges $3 shipping for orders up to $10 -
http://www.tmdistributing.com/ A bottle of 100 200mg tablets is $9
or buy two for $6 each. I haven't ever order from them.

I presume you are going to use these for snail control. Please let us
know how well it works.

Thanks deg! Yes, I was going to try them for snail control. Any idea how
I'd create the experiment? Isolate a bunch of bush snails, dunk them in
caffeine water vs plain water, time how long they take to die? Isolate a
bunch of bush snails, place them on filter paper laced with caffeine vs
plain filter paper, time how fast they crawl away? Trust me, I got a ton of
bush snails to try this with.

Or forget the science, and just water the orchds with caffeine water and
report the results, *G*

Or, take several caffeine pills, and stay up all night in the
greenhouse with a flashlight...

Now don't pooh-pooh watering with coffee. A friend of mine for years watered
her orchids with the leftover cool coffee from breakfast. She didn't fertilize
and she certainly didn't have any snails (windowsill grower), but her orchids
always bloomed better than mine! :-)

i've always wondered if it would be possible to combine my two favourite
things...when i was using bark mis i always comtemplated adding some tea
leaves, but never actually did it. i might try giving them a drink of tea
though...

(((LOL))) Too funny! I wish I was a cartoonist.
I think the caffeine would just keep the slugs or snails awake that
much longer & they would chomp more! *G*
I did an experiment when I first read about using coffee.
I put used grounds in a dish with water, sadisticly added some
slugs, forgot about them & after a week they were still there alive
but a little brown in colour!

Here's an article that suggest a 2% solution. That would be 20 grams
per liter of water - an entire bottle of 100 200mg tablets - or about
400 tablets per gallon of water. Sure sounds like a lot to me.

http://www.greennature.com/article1343.html

I'm sure powdered caffeine is available commercially much cheaper, but
not generally available to individuals due to liability issues. FYI,
I had pretty good luck using an iron based snail / slug treatment even
on mounted plants. I'd take damp mounts, hold them horizontally and
sprinkle on the pellets. Enough would get stuck in crevices to work.
It took a while and the pellets get moldy, but the snails seem to be
gone. I've wondered if the pellets could be dissolved and sprayed, but
haven't tried that.
