Default Question onVines that grow into trees +

Heronswood Nursery in the 2006 catalogue, lists three vines that grow
in shade and can grow into trees:

1. Schizophragma hydrangeoides "Moonlight"

http://www.heronswood.com/catalog/br...nes::88:8;2178

2. Schizophragma hydrangeoides "Roseun"

http://www.heronswood.com/catalog/br...nes::88:8;2178

3 Hydrangea anomala ssp. petiolaris

http://www.heronswood.com/catalog/01691?b8kMkPTL;;2107

These descriptions are not the same as the new catalogue! Does anybody
have any experience with these? So, if they grow into trees, how does
that effect the tree if at all?

They also list Aralia cordata as a zone 6 plant!

http://www.heronswood.com/catalog/05081?b8kMkPTL;;2249

Wonder if they push the zones plants can be grown in?

And Pseudopanax ferox:

Looks like it may be an interesting conversational plant to go inside!
Anyone have any further information on it?

Default Question onVines that grow into trees +

schizophragma hydrandeoides are new to me - i just got 'moonlight' last
year and have it in a client's garden in zone 9a. it's grown only 1 or
2 new leaves in a year. i planted hydrangea anomala ssp. petiolaris
several years ago in zone 6 - new york. it's still alive, and i think
the main stem is a fraction thicker than when i put it in, but that's
IT so far. good plant if you have grandchildren who are planning on
sticking around to watch your plants. it's a beautiful plant that
takes a human lifetime to mature. i've seen a mature one somewhere -
maybe longwood gardens?? pseudopanax ferox is a very odd bird.
difficult to keep alive, from what i've heard. difficult to tell if
it's alive, from what i can see. giant walking sticks supposedly
camouflage as plants. this plant camouflages as a giant walking stick.
