Default New Koi Today

Well as many of you may or may not know, I have a 3200 gal pond I built
last fall. Today, i took the plunge and bought 5 Butterfly Koi from Pets
Smart (Yes Pets smart) I brought them home, I took a tub and added some
pond water as well as the water from the Box store, now they're
acclimating themselves to the new surroundings.
I'll put them in the pond sometime tomorrow

A happy occasion, indeed, Peter. They should be happy in your pond! I
remember how excited I was when I got my first Koi. Best of luck!

Congratulations!

3200 gal should make them happy campers.

Can you post some pics somewhere?

Buterfly koi are just so beautiful. We have 2 or 3 and want more. We
saw yellow and plum butterfly koi at a show, they were just gorgeous -
I don't think I've ever seen more beautiful koi. But they were worth a
small fortune, way out of our reach!! A breeder from, I think,
Louisiana, had them in competition!!
Hope your new babies are happy and enjoying their new digs! Don't be
surprised if they hide for a few days. We had one hide for 3 mos,
thought sure he was gone!

Good luck. Here's to hours of pleasure. We put in some little koi four
years ago. "Bling" and "Black Bob", both butterflies, are now a foot long.
We wouldn't part with them for anything.

I have a beautiful deep brick red koi I bought some years back from
PetsMart. I paid something like $2 for it. I never saw another one like it.
Nothing wrong with buying from these chain stores. :-)

We had to look as well, when we first put them in.

Give it a bit and you won't have the problem. They get bigger fast
and they will learn when and where food goes in. Jim has ours eating
from his hand now.

well it depends. if the fish at petsmart just came in and havent been quarantined
and die, then they arent worth 50 cents either. if the local nursery got them, held
them for a month, treated them for cooties, then they may well be worth the bucks.
