Default Winter comes, Katrina passes and rec.ponds begins to snooze

Mississippi is starting to have freezes. The pond is clearly going to
sleep.

It appears the newsgroup is doing the same. We have adopted a simple policy
about posts: If a post has more than one ng receiving it, we block the
sender. It becomes very easy to interact with our fellow ponders this way.

Our son had a house in New Orleans...about 1/2 mile from the levy break on
tv...downhill from it. It sat for 3 weeks in 8 1/2 feet of water. It will
be bulldozed soon. Not fun.

Merry winter to y'all!

Jim

## It's getting cold here as well. The ponds are down to 54F. The fish are
losing interest in food. I'll by shutting the pumps down in a week or two.
The filters will be cleaned and put away.

## Excellent idea. In OE I added a handful of key words and the NG is
almost empty. :-)

Thanks for your concern Carol-Ann. He had good insurance, flood and
hurricane. And he has detailed pictures of everything in his house. Now he
has to document the cost of every T-shirt he ever got (and photoed).
However, only rooms with wind damage qualify for reimbursement. Flood
insurance did not cover contents. Also, replacement cost only comes into
play when you actually replace something. Otherwise, it is depreciated
value. What is the depreciated value of souvenir Elvis shades? Or of a
gift your parents got for you in Europe? He has an huge task valuing the
stuff...but better thaqn not having insurance. He won't come out ahead, but
he will get his money out and have a clean lot to build on if he wants. The
federal gov't offers VERY good loan rates to people in his situation.

Thanks for your concern.

Jim

do not have a monopoly on the name Derek by any means do you? Afterall
look at my signature...I am a Derek too, however I am not anywhere
near as narrow minded and stupid as you are.......
