Default Farm pond improvement question.

I have a 1/2 acre pond that was formed by damming the very beginning
of a creek (I live on top of a mountain). When it rains the creek
flows for maybe 3 or 4 days. There is a spot on the opposite side of
the pond for the overflow. The creek is not well defined, its just a
slight indentation. As you get farther from the pond the creek is just
a wet area. Even farther up there is an indentation that accumulates
water for several days after a hard rain.

Obviously when my pond is full and overflowing it looks cleaner. My
idea is to create a deeper creek with a backhoe. I'm thinking it will
increase the amount of water that gets into the pond after a rain. My
plan is to dig a trench from the pond up to the indentation then line
it with something that will prevent the water from seeping into the
ground. I was think of lining it with crushed limestone that is used
for driveways, then putting some 5 inch rocks in there to make it look
nice. Another idea is to put a corrugated drainpipe at the bottom of
the trench and then cover it with rocks.

The bottom line is I'm trying to capture as much rainwater as
possible.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Chuck.
