About a month ago, I cleaned out my pond and when the water was low, netted
and moved my 7 Koi to a smaller pond that is about 5 foot deep. The Koi are
about a foot in size, and now I wish to move them back to my original
pond--problem is, they used to move up near the top of the water in plain
view, but after trying to scoop them once, they stay hidden out of sight.
What would be the best way to safely get them?

Netting disrupts their mucus barrier stressing the fish and making it more
prone to disease.
Best way would be to try to get them into a barrell by chasing them with a
net or baiting them with food.

It takes two. Drop the water level so you can walk around in the
pond and use one net that is pretty stationary and another to slowly
herd the koi into the still net. Fast moves frighten the fish.

Get one of those big round flat Koi nets and chase them into a corner
and they will LEAP right into the net!

thick water hyacinths

I use a minnow seine to herd the koi into a smaller area that I can then
work comfortably. Without getting them into a smaller area, you are all
over the pond. I then get into my pond, about 3 and a half feet deep and
work the large flat koi net, and the sock net. Some will jump over the
seine net, or go around the edges, but it keeps most where you can catch,
then redo the seine again.

I'd lay the plants outside the pond and keep them wet enough to
survive until I was done playing with the fish.
