Default Lotus - No Pot?

Hi:

I have an area at the end of the pond I am thinking of planting lotus in.

Details -
3' x 2' x 15" deep with about 8" of soil
Separated from main pond by landscape fabric and rocks
Shared water

If I put a lotus in here in no pot will I regret the decision?

Thanks,
Heather

Heather, I was going to do the same thing with my lotus pond..
No pots - but was talked out of it by two ladies here on this news-
group. They told me the lotus would soon take over my pond
which is 12 feet in diameter... I followed their recommendation.
I put my 4 lotuses in pots and have never regretted it.

AGH don't do it. It will look good the first year, the second year you'll
frown and say hmmmm....the third year it will be in your main pond with a
vengenance and you will need two people to pull the tubers out.......having
learned the hard way.....
