There is none that will remove the dirt from the bottom.
A good skimmer will remove the top leaves. And do nothing to the bottom. A good pump will pick off the bottom and get some of the dirt but little of it. A yearly cleaning dos the trick. Look at a Savio skimmer, you can set it up to skim normally and when you
want to suck off the bottom close the door and it will suck from the bottom. "Ed" wrote in message ... Can anyone reccomend a good filter setup to remove leaves, dirt and debris ? I am not the most handiest at building any type of filter. |

Hi Mickey,
What model Savio skimmer do you have? Nedra http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Pines/4836 http://community.webshots.com/user/nedra118 "Mickey" wrote in message ... If you are looking to remove a bunch of stuff that is already on the bottom,
I would recommend a shop vac. The leaves and other debris will foul any filter, and most pumps. If your pond is too large for a shop vac, as are mine, then you can use a vacuum similar to the one that I use which is on my web site. If you are looking to keep the leaves, a lot of the dirt, and other air blown debris from going to the bottom then a skimmer is the only way to go. A bottom drain will clean the material that does sink, but if there is big stuff, then the pump may be damaged. -- RichToyBox http://www.geocities.com/richtoybox/pondintro.html "Ed" wrote in message ... Hi Ed, Check out my website on how to go over the edge using a bottom drain & skimmer, added after the fact. Ideally one puts these in when installing the pond. Filter design/parts click on both *My Filter* and *Demon Pond Filter* *Lily Pond Photos* will show how we set up the plumbing to go thru the liner of a new pond. ~ jan See my ponds and filter design: http://users.owt.com/jjspond/ ~Keep 'em Wet!~ Tri-Cities WA Zone 7a To e-mail see website |

The model 85 towards the bottom is the one that allows the door to be closed
and suck water from the bottom. That is the model I have. "Nedra" wrote in message ink.net... Thanks Mickey. Not the one I have. I have Model 85 - - got it from AZ Ponds. Oh Hallelujah! You mean I finally bought something that has a double use??
How can I train a guy or two to install it properly?? I don't have a clue as to how these things are installed? Actually I did have an install promised from the lady who owns the LFS ... but the guy she hired refuzes (SP) to touch the Savio!..... same o-same-o. Any other suggestions as to how this can be instaalled? Nedra http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Pines/4836 http://community.webshots.com/user/nedra118 "Mickey" wrote in message ... I don't have the Savio, but have installed skimmers with similar features
both before and after the pond was installed. It is not hard. As a retro fit, it is easiest to drain the pond to the level of the bottom of the skimmer, but can be done by inserting a piece of plywood between the liner and the pond wall before digging the hole for the skimmer. Dig a hole that is the correct depth to put the skimmer door opening at the correct height. I like mine to be just below the top of the door opening at pond overflow height so that the pond can be drained down the 5 or 6 or 8 inches to the bottom of the door without the skimmer going dry. Insert the skimmer in the hole and backfill from behind to push the skimmer forward into the liner. If you used the plywood, remove it now, and the liner will lay against the skimmer. Be sure the water level is low enough to have the door completely above water level. Cut the liner to match the skimmer opening and install the weir and face plate, all with silicone caulk between liner and skimmer, liner and weir, liner or weir and face plate. Mine has screws to hold the face plate on, and these would then be installed. Refill pond. If it has a bottom drain fitting, as I put in mine, a bulkhead fitting ties the liner to the front of the skimmer box. Use silicone on this connection also, if you drain the pond to that level. I have cut the liner for the bulkhead fitting with the pond full and though I am sure there was some leakage, it was minor. -- RichToyBox http://www.geocities.com/richtoybox/pondintro.html "Nedra" wrote in message hlink.net... Thanks a million for your installation instructions, Rich. I Know
I'll be able to find a couple of pond guys to install it now ;-) Nedra "RichToyBox" wrote in message news:8sANc.168908$a24.34238@attbi_s03...
