Note that pest control services that catch and remove snakes from
homes release the snakes in suitable habitats.
One of those feel good things that has the wrong impact.

What wrong impact? On the place they release them? I doubt it. imo, if
I have snakes in my house it means they have a food source, and I would
almost certainly be less happy after removing them, but I know some
people
are terrified of snakes. Of course, a lot of those people are terrified

of
mice...

Probably not as bad for snakes, as it for catch and relocation of mammals.
If you take something like a opossum or a raccoon, and relocate it. Often
the released animal is put inside of some other opossum or raccoon's
territory, so often the released animal dies of stress from constantly
being chased out of someone else's established territory.

I can't see it. Is a raccoon or possum worse off being released in another
animal's territory (raccoons _have_ territories??) than being constantly
chased out of _my_ territory (or killed?). In any case, any animal has to
establish a territory at some time, and many have to do it frequently.
Catch & release of most pest mammals, is pretty pointless, since they tend
to come right back to the place they were a pest, but the worst it does in
most cases is have _no_ impact.

Derek wrote raccoons _have_ territories??

More like routes through their territory so their 'territories' can overlap.
The one raccoon you have to be careful of moving is the nursing mother.
I'd like to think the experience of being caught and transported would be
enough for a raccoon to drop you from his/her route and not come back.
Anyone ever catch and release a raccoon and have it come back?
I know of a bullfrog who used to come back after being transported. Had a
distinctive scar.
