YOu can get these type pumps at most box box stores and are usually
made by Beckett or Little Giant. They also have the usual assortment
in a kit with adapters, and various nozzles for a fountain. They just
use slip joints to attach together.

For a filter box you can use virtually anything that is suitable for
the size pond its going into, or you can pay 30 or 40 bucks for a
filter box already made up into which you can place the pump complete
with fountain assembly on it, and filter media included, and just drop
it into the pond and plug it in.

You can also use any container suitable like a larger tupper ware type
container or plastic material storage container that has a snap type
lid. You can find these at Big Lots or Wal MArt in kitchen wares
section etc. Just make a series of 3/4 iinch or so holes in the lid,
and also a hole that will fit the tubes from the fountain to go
through, usually in the center of the lid or there abouts. Insert the
pump with a prefilter on the intake (usually a piece of foam rubber),
and suround the pump with your choice of bio media....scrubby things,
bio balls, lava rock, PVC ribbon, .etc) I usually cut a piece of 1/2"
plastic hardware mesh to fit inside the container and place it over
the layer of Bio media material, which I usually make as high as the
pump body itself. On top of this mesh divider you can lay in your
choice of filter mats / sponge, fiber, batting etc. place lid over the
extended fountain supply tube, and snap in place, push on fountain
nozzle and its good to go. Really very simple.

You may be able to get by without a prefilter attached directly to the
pump, but I like the extra added filtering material there, and its
usually trouble free in regards to getting clogged up as the mat
filter material catch 99% of the junk and it never gets much into this
prefilter itself.

Here's this one: http://www.mvwgs.org/filter.htm but I much prefer a solid
bucket, so when you lift it out the muck doesn't drain out of it.

Now if you just want to run the fountain and not needing to filter it is
better to clam shell the pump in mesh planter baskets similar to:

one with screening door stuff over the top.

The one shown above was attached to an out of the pond filter that looks
like a flower pot similar to those shown on my filter page at the bottom of
