building a raised rose bed
Does anyone have a link or general instructions on how to build a raised
rose bed? In general I know about how to condition the soil, etc. I'm looking for hints or suggestions on building the boxes. This would be for a side of my house where the lawn slopes down as you walk along the side of the house. So I'm looking for hints on what to use, and how you build up the lower end to make it level with the higher end. I think I want to use RR ties or landscape timbers, etc. Any hints appreciated. thanks JimS. Seattle |

You may be looking more for plans, but these pics may help:
http://www.raised-garden-beds.com/ Or: http://www.bhg.com/bhg/story.jhtml?s...l_02212002.xml or: http://www.rosesocieties.com/memphis...ised_Beds.html JimS. wrote: Does anyone have a link or general instructions on how to build a raised rose bed? Thanks for the links, but those don't really help. None of them mentions
how you dig in on a sloping stretch. Building the raised box is the easy part, it's the slope that complicates it. "ben boorman" wrote in message nk.net... Wouldn't it be a situation where you have the same length planks on the front but then just cut the side pieces to different lengths to accomodate the slope (the bottom side pieces would be the shortest)? This sould mean cutting well into the slope, but at least it would be the most stable way of doing it (it would be a modified "terrace"). you would shore up the sides and top, and it might be good to level of the top of it was well (perhaps a narrow gravel walkway along the top edge also cut into the slope). On each end of the top of the bed, you could run drangage hoses buried next to the sides of the bed to channel water away from the top and sides to avoid erosion.
