Last frost

Okay silly question here. Are you suppose to prune the roses before spring or in the fall? -- Debbie (New Mexico) Life is too short It depends. (ha!) Seriously though, pruning time does depend on the individual rose. Most roses are pruned after the last danger of frost and before new growth begins in the spring. However, once bloomers are pruned (usually) in early summer, or immediately after they've finished blooming. There's even roses that don't like to be pruned at all. Noisette climbers, for one. The best advice is to know what you're growing and keep good reference handy. Helpful? Mike |
