I don't think anyone replied because you waffled about half of your life
story without mentioning a problem.
You should have said something like, "I have a dracaena massangeana and it's
not doing too well, it has one live bud but no green leaves, does anyone
know anything about them?"

No one cares about your living arrangements or your feelings for your
flatmate's friend! - keep it to the point and you may stand a better chance
of getting help.

Unhappy

Both fair points, the reason why i posted the story as well is because i noticed that someone else who had posted about similar problems in a matter of fact way was replied to with comments like "people who leave their plants to die should be shot!" and other such messages, which is why i put the story with it. Can't please some people!

thanks to the one person who replied nicely to the post, as opposed to the two unhelpful people who took time out of their day to be spiteful to someone asking for help.

Eh????
I've never seen anything like that in uk.rec.gardening (which is where
you are posting)

and other such messages, which is
why i put the story with it. Can't please some people!

Again, puzzlement. I hadn't seen any spiteful reply, so I looked up the
thread in Google groups, and found two helpful replies (one in the
original thread, one in your second thread), and one silly reply from
someone I killfiled long ago - I suppose someone else may have replied
negatively with a no-archive flag, but you do seem to have missed at
lest one helpful response.

I should've been more clear, when I said about the replies I meant about the two to this particular thread, which I associated with the original thread that I posted.

The spitefulness I would think was plain from the 'piffle' person "Cereus-validus.......", "Phil L" wasn't exactly a beaming beacon of friendly welcome with his remarks about my 'waffle' either.

The url to the thread I referred to is: https://www.gardenbanter.co.uk/gardening/1078-my-dracaena-massangeana-lost-cause.html I did however, mistakenly quote the person as saying that:
Quote:
"people who leave their plants to die should be shot!"
when in actual fact I meant to refer to:
Quote:
"Too bad you can't have someone arrested for plant abuse."
and the reason I humanised my post was due to the tone indicated by:
Quote:
"Nurse it back to health? Take meticulous care of it from here on out? Who do you think you are, Michael Jackson?"
which hostility I thought at the time I'd rather avoid by learning from Sean Harding's (the poster of the original Dracaena advice request) mistake, whilst attempting to assure of my sincerity towards the helalth of my plant.

Anyway, it doesn't really matter, I've taken the advice of the friendly person and re-potted my Dracaena. I'm about to post a reply of gratitude to Janet Galpin as the leaves are starting to sort of 'fill out' even after this short time.

My only regret is that amongst a seemingly peaceful hobby, there are more people that wish to negatively affect those who look for honest advice, rather than help, like Janet.

In future I will not post on this board, I'll instead ask people who seem interested in actual help directly, which is indeed counter-productive when we consider this is a forum. Oh well, chin up.
