How close does the male have to be to the female for holly to produce
berries please?

"Somewhere near" is my unhelpful reply. Let's say four or five
females to one male in any ordinary garden. Don't prune till after
Christmas, and you should get plenty of berries. Ignore any
supersititions about the weather to come: they're nonsense. Just be
patient.
