Default Seedling Selection - Mixed

I noticed that one of my 3 main seed suppliers, enclosed a useful leaflet on
seed cultivation.
In the past, I have often wondered why some of my 'mixed' flowers have been
predominantly one colour.
Here is a brief extract : "When pricking out your seedlings ......... it is
a good idea to select individuals with an assortment of sizes -
paradoxically it is often the small and weakly seedlings that eventually
produce the best flowers with the most interesting colours. This is
particurlarly true when dealing with (a) mixtures or (b) varieties of
species where any reversion to type, parent, species ........."
Perhaps not very Darwinian, but may be worth bearing in mind come 'selection
day'. I'm not knowledgeable enough to comment whether hybrids would be
effected - probably not.

Regards ..... Paul
