Question Growing plants from seed - advice needed

was planning to grow some aquilegia, verbena bonariensis, and a hardy geranium from seed

Firstly wondered whether someone could recommend some hardy geraniums which i plan to plant out in a border that will get good light but only direct sun for a couple of hours at most in height of summer?

i want all these plants to flower next year so is it possible to wait until next spring and sow then or do i need to do it now for next year, or is it too late for this year anyway. if i do grow this year when should i plant out?

also i don't have a greenhouse just a east facing window which gets good sun till lunchtime. will this suffice, do i need anything other than a gritty compost to sow seeds on, and should seeds by watered from below?

the more help the better, thanks!
