Question Plants For Shade

Any suggestions on what to plant in a border which is in the shade all day due to a three foot fence , considering its in the shade i would prefer something with colour throughout the summer and be able to leave there for future summers and also pretty easy to look after and obtain ( i dont want much) much appreciated.
