Spots on Apricot fruit
I have an 20 year-old, not terribly healthy looking apricot tree in the garden. Every year it produces loads of fruit, many of which ripen, but most fall early. We only get to eat a handful. Without exception all the fruit - from the moment the blossom fades - show little dark red/brown spots on the upper sides. They look to me like insect bites? As time goes on they spread and the whole upper half of the young fruit turn rusty red. If and when the ripen these places always seem to go mouldy on the tree (monilla?). Does anyone know what his might be and if there's a way to cure or reduce it? Is there a way to stop so many of the young fruit falling? Do I need another pollinator in the area? I have uploaded two photos he http://www.alpineroads.com/general/p...ot/apricot.htm -- Tim C. |
