news.individual.net

10 Euros per year.

Reliable and fast, but no binaries.

I'm using news.svr.pol.co.uk, and news.gazeta.pl Both free, but the latter
is Polish, so someone else set it up for me. Also recommended to me although
I haven't set it up yet, I can't remember the full name but it goes
something like ?????.datemas.de

news.individual.net

What is that in real money?

And does that include phone charges?

With Virgin you only pay for the call.

Ummmm - it is real money in a lot of places :~))
Translates to 6.73426 GBP

No. It's a news server not a provider.

I have broadband via cable.

Others have mentioned News.Individual.Net and I will add to the list of
people who think this is a good service.

I've been using it for a few weeks now and so far it has been
excellent.

There are no binaries but at 10¤ per annum it is very cheap indeed.

You write that you wish to use "mail reader as normal". I see you are
using Outlook Express and iirc, that mail client incorporates a
news-reader but I haven't used it in years. I think that all you need
to do is sign up with News.Individual.Net, then change the usenet
settings in Outlook Express to suit.

News.Individual.Net have a web-site:

http://news.individual.net/

Many many thanks to all who sent me emails as well as posting here. I am now
sorted and although technically the News.individual.net service is not free
it is so cheap I do not mind! and I guess the previous free service kept
breaking down because there was no point in them fixing it.
