SLAUGHTER.. LIVE ON TV
EXCLUSIVE Schoolkids weep as pig is butchered, skinned
& eaten
By Jenna Sloan
LIVE animals are slaughtered in front of horrified school-
children in a new TV shocker.

Graphic scenes from BBC's Kill It, Cook It, Eat It show
smoke coming out of a pig's head as it collapses after being
electrocuted. Abattoir staff then hang the twitching animal up
by its legs and cut its throat, sending blood gushing to the floor.

Audience members including schoolkids watch behind a glass
screen and some weep as the pig is thrown into boiling water
and skinned. Earlier a film showed the same animal as a cute
piglet.

After the animal is dead, a butcher carves it up and cooks it -
and guests tuck into meat they saw alive only minutes before.
In other episodes a cow is sawn in half and a lamb's head is
cut off, in an effort to "reconnect" us with the meat we buy.

Kids' TV presenter and vegetarian Rani Smith burst into
tears as she saw blood gush from a cow's neck. Vegetarian
Society spokeswoman Liz O'Neill said: "It was upsetting."

Beef farmer Ken Howie told presenter Richard Johnson:
"I do question whether the general public needs to see that."

Another disgusted woman said: "It actually made me feel
sick seeing an animal being killed just for TV."

But BBC Three controller Julian Bellamy said: "There is a
desire to learn where the food we eat comes from and how
that food reaches our plate. It will get people talking."

KILL It, Cook It, Eat It is on BBC3 from tomorrow to
Wednesday at 10.30pm.

"If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be
a vegetarian." ~Paul McCartney

I initially thought complaint was in order here, but on consideration
this is probably the best case for going vegetarian we have on TV at
the moment. Let it run I say?
Not quite slaughterhouse reality. Very clinical, obviously special
effort made for the cameras. It certainly opened up a few eyes I'm
sure.

Last night it was the lambs who were slaughtered, in what can only be
described as staged. The Lambs were actually a year old, usually they
are slaughtered at 6 months. No mention of the mums being forced to
have three lambs at a time, and in the middle of winter!
lso the vets *claim* that the brain is dead in about 20 seconds is
pure fallacy! These animals are kicking and struggling, because they
are still alive. The *claim* they are involuntary spasms, and muscle
contractions, in their death struggle was also shown a lie, as some of
the animals were obviously dead, and clearly not struggling!

A horrid insight, albeit clinical and staged, into the meat industry.
Now add the fact that there are billions of animals slaughtered
globally, in factory farmed conditions, nothing like the staged show
we have seen. Then we can wonder what kind of person can be involved
in that industry!
You'd have thought they would have shown the reality, which is factory
farming, as most meat comes from them. How come they never showed
this? What about the chickens, ducks, geese, calves? It's a shame they
had the opportunity to really show the truth, and chose to hide it!

Straight out of and into their Conspiracy File.

Hopefully this will lead to more reality shows on this subject, and
show it at a decent time. Only about 750k watched it :-(

I, for one, don't get BBC3, but then I'm in Ireland..

Maybe that just shows people don't actually care!

Some choice quotes on the subject

Excellent. Thanks.

And this is very interesting subject to birdwatchers!

About as much interest as to gardeners I would think Alan
