SLAUGHTER.. LIVE ON TV
EXCLUSIVE Schoolkids weep as pig is butchered, skinned
& eaten
By Jenna Sloan
LIVE animals are slaughtered in front of horrified school-
children in a new TV shocker.

Graphic scenes from BBC's Kill It, Cook It, Eat It show
smoke coming out of a pig's head as it collapses after being
electrocuted. Abattoir staff then hang the twitching animal up
by its legs and cut its throat, sending blood gushing to the floor.

Audience members including schoolkids watch behind a glass
screen and some weep as the pig is thrown into boiling water
and skinned. Earlier a film showed the same animal as a cute
piglet.

After the animal is dead, a butcher carves it up and cooks it -
and guests tuck into meat they saw alive only minutes before.
In other episodes a cow is sawn in half and a lamb's head is
cut off, in an effort to "reconnect" us with the meat we buy.

Kids' TV presenter and vegetarian Rani Smith burst into
tears as she saw blood gush from a cow's neck. Vegetarian
Society spokeswoman Liz O'Neill said: "It was upsetting."

Beef farmer Ken Howie told presenter Richard Johnson:
"I do question whether the general public needs to see that."

Another disgusted woman said: "It actually made me feel
sick seeing an animal being killed just for TV."

But BBC Three controller Julian Bellamy said: "There is a
desire to learn where the food we eat comes from and how
that food reaches our plate. It will get people talking."

KILL It, Cook It, Eat It is on BBC3 from tomorrow to
Wednesday at 10.30pm.

I initially thought complaint was in order here, but on consideration
this is probably the best case for going vegetarian we have on TV at
the moment. Let it run I say?

Let's hope they show some halal and kosher ie.truly barbarous
slaughter. Then kids will realise how ethical eating game one has
hunted oneself really is ie. bushmen, Inuit, kowri and other
aboriginal peoples who are often thought of as uncivilised by townies.

Thanks, Pete. I'm so glad to know you'll approve each time I knock
over a grey squirrel for the pot. Have you any recipes to share for
these tasty, little animals?

Ps. Nothing goes to waste. The local crows and foxes get the guts and
the fur. Every one is organically raised, to boot.

That's not the idea though is it. No fun in that. The fun is in the
killing, and then only as long as it cant fight back!

Beats me why you gun nut bullies never seem to volunteer for Iraq!

Somewhat emotive. Kids generally enjoy being 'horrified', the fascination
and so on is just another version of the 'Dr. Who from behind the sofa'
sensation. We were taken to the local slaughterhouse as kids, we weren't
allowed in until straight after the bang as they didn't want the beast
scared by a noisy class but most of us shut up when we saw the bullock
rolled out of the crush still twitching.

Oddly, I think more of us were more impressed by our visit to the shoeing
smith, a brave man to handle a massive, presumably bomb proof, draught horse
in front of twenty boys. The fire, noise and smell of scorching hoof was a
real surprise to most of us.

After the animal is dead, a butcher carves it up and cooks it -

Now that is disgusting. It will be practically inedible and taste nothing
like they are used to. I hope he really cheats and serves some of one he
killed earlier that has been properly hung. Giving someone hour-dead pig
to eat is likely to put them off eating pork for ever.

Let's hope they show some halal and kosher ie.truly barbarous
slaughter.

Overy emotive again. It needn't be any more dramatic than 'conventional'
slaughter.

Then kids will realise how ethical eating game one has
hunted oneself really is ie. bushmen, Inuit, kowri and other

The strange rules townies come up with are directly opposed to sensible
eating. A while ago we were involved with a series of school parties on
field trips - discontinued now as they can't get teachers prepared to take
on the mountain of paperwork. One highlight was always the end of course
beach barbecue. Whilst it was always all right to serve cut-price,
supermarket own-brand burgers and fourteenth rate sausages and own-brand
fish-fingers we were never allowed to cook and eat fish or shellfish taken
directly from the foreshore.

I find that hard to believe, given your record! Give us the name of
the school concerned, and lets see if you are telling porkies? I know
for a fact, with your record, you would not pass the *protection of

So lets have it. The checks wont take long.

Yeah I forgot like lad, most kids think meat is made by Tesco, Asda etc,
ffs, they need to live in the real world. Molly coddled kids nowadays,
Christ I was killing, skinning and eating my own catches when I was a
youngster. Kids need to get out more not sitting in front of a TV or

I agree. Watch the program "not in my day", it's a very good insight
into bad parenting these days.

SLAUGHTER..
Earlier a film showed the same animal as a cute
piglet.

Yeah I forgot like lad, most kids think meat is made by Tesco, Asda etc,
ffs, they need to live in the real world. Molly coddled kids nowadays,
Christ I was killing, skinning and eating my own catches when I was a
youngster. Kids need to get out more not sitting in front of a TV or
computer screen all day.

And the relationship to vegetarians is?

Somewhat emotive. Â*Kids generally enjoy being 'horrified', the fascination
and so on is just another version of the 'Dr. Who from behind the sofa'
sensation. Â*We were taken to the local slaughterhouse as kids, we weren't
allowed in until straight after the bang as they didn't want the beast
scared by a noisy class but most of us shut up when we saw the bullock
rolled out of the crush still twitching.

Â*It will be practically inedible and taste nothing
like they are used to. Â*I hope he really cheats and serves some of one he
killed earlier that has been properly hung. Â*Giving someone hour-dead pig
to eat is likely to put them off eating pork for ever.

Let's hope they show some halal and kosher ie.truly barbarous
slaughter.

Overy emotive again. It needn't be any more dramatic than 'conventional'
slaughter.

Â* Â* Â* Â* Â* Â* Then kids will realise how ethical eating game one has
hunted oneself really is ie. bushmen, Inuit, kowri and other
aboriginal peoples who are often thought of as uncivilised by townies.

The strange rules townies come up with are directly opposed to sensible
eating. Â*A while ago we were involved with a series of school parties on
field trips - discontinued now as they can't get teachers prepared to take
on the mountain of paperwork. Â*One highlight was always the end of course
beach barbecue. Â*Whilst it was always all right to serve cut-price,
supermarket own-brand burgers and fourteenth rate sausages and own-brand
fish-fingers we were never allowed to cook and eat fish or shellfish taken
directly from the foreshore.

Daft. Â*Cheerio,

What the F**K does this have to do with uk rec gardening, just another
stupid cross post, but the programme was for braodcast at 22;30, and
surely designed fro after the watershed when no kids SHOULD have been
watching anyway. There is, as with all TV programmes, the OFF button
if you don't like it.
