Default Bean rot

Hi I put beans in early in February.
They have grown well (and sturdily) as some have chosen to grow across
the ground for a few inches and then upwards (now 10 inches high) , I
thought they were fine especially when the flowers turned to beans!
Tonight I examined one bean pod - and the whole thing came away from
the ground with very little root! There are ants around as well - are
these the problem?
Regards
LW
