Petrol lawnmower ignition adjustment

Thanks, that's interesting. Has the OP done a google on Teuschmesh(sp) engines? I wouldn't be surprised to find the manual online somewhere. I have... can't find anything for my specific engine, and the manuals that are out there seem to show engines in quite different arrangements so don't seem to be much help. There are a few people selling manuals on ebay but they're not for the BVS series. Theo |

FULL STOP ENGINE. Spark plug almost as important. A wire brush will clean that and as a VERY VERY rough guide, the gap between the electrodes should be the thickness of a thumb nail. I realised those - they were dirty but cleaning them was the first thing I did when I started working on the mower I did toothbrush and meths treatment on the plug - scraped away much of the carbon on it. Though the clean and dry air filter sponge soaked up much more oil than I expected... should I squeeze out as much oil as possible (to allow the airflow) or is it better to keep some in (to collect bits of dust, I assume)? I don't think it was originally very oily, but the previous owners of the mower did zero maintenance on it so that's probably not a guide. FWIW in testing (on concrete, not cutting anything, not dusty air) I ran it with no air filter until I got it started. I washed mine in petrol. Worked fine for the foam part. Mine also has a paper part with rubber surrounding gasket. The paper part was ok being cleaned in petrol but the rubber started to swell very quickly. Lucky I got away with it. |

Petrol lawnmower ignition adjustment
Theo,
I recently carried out a full service on a tecumseh which had similar problems to your symptoms. That one needed the valves ground in as the owner had been running the mower on choke and the crap that had built up was sticking the exhaust valve open making it run like a bag of spanners. Reground, rebuilt and showed the owner the correct way to operate the choke (Turns out he had been starting and running on like that for a year) and its been running like dream for the past three months with no problems at all. Might not be your problem but worth checking. Re- gap setting. If stuck I used to use a manila folder (Mainly for Honda GX models) till I could get my hands on feeler gauges back at the workshop - http://www.tool-up.co.uk/shop/diy/scan/se=7753/sf=cat .. Hope this helps |
