They are known as sheep-killers in Chile because once a sheep gets entangled in one, that's it, no escape. Puya berteroniana is worth a Google, you can get the seeds from Chiltern Seeds, and plants from other suppliers. They're extremely vicious plants, but the flowers are very beautiful. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/liv..._article_id=45 8837&in_page_id=1770 someone If you ever get the chance, visit the Abbey gardens Tresco in summer. The Puyas there will take your breath away. They're in other parts of the island, too but they're en masse in the Gardens. Mike Nelhams, the curator has written a book about the Gardens and the plants which is fascinating to anyone who would like to grow some of these exotics. http://www.tresco.co.uk/the_abbey_garden/plants.asp Thanks for the interesting information, I'll have a look. I'd love to visit Tresco one day. someone |
