If you need any job control language writing I'm your man! It's been a
good few years but I'm sure the VMS grey cells are still there under the

Getting way off topic now, but I once wrote a very large JCL program to
monitor and regulate the system, run various jobs, backups, reports etc.
I even gave it it's own username space to run in "Marvin". It would
monitor and log off idle users and send messages to appropriate people
saying printers had run out of paper etc. It got quite chatty with one
user one day and they phoned up the I.T. dept asking to speak to Marvin
:-)

Yes, that's the one. I can't remember if the user was phoning to
complain about something or to arrange a date with him :-)

It is a bit unsettling to remember that I wrote the Marvin software
twelve years ago!

First of all, thankyou for pointing out the spelling mistakes. I know
they are there and will be proof reading and correcting them as soon as
possible. Having lots of work to do and no internet access at home means
these things happen :)

Don't worry about it, everyone else is perfect and knows everything!

Also, im not a web designer by any means, this is my first attempt at a
website. Although I am happy to take critisism (I know the site isnt
perfect), im just happy to have achieved anything at all! Just as a
note, the website wont work unless you have flash on your computer.

I liked it, it was fresh and clean. And why on Earth does anyone who Knows
About Computers NOT have Flash?

As for my design specialism, I am a '3D Designer', which basically
means I can design a pretty broad range of products. I am not an
engineer or an architect however, so the boundaries are only with what
I have the skills to do.

Once I saw a white van with the lettering "Garden Maintinince" or
similar spelling error. I couldn't help wondering if it was accidental
or like the badly spelled sign outside Arkwright's (Ronny Barker's) shop
- there as a lure to get people through the door so he could sell them
something.

Well, David, nobody's perfect - except in his (usually) own estimation.

The man who never made a mistake never made anything.

I doubt that any of the detractors knew everything when starting out.

I saw no-one having a go at the young lady.
I saw plenty of feed back at the shop window (website) she uses to
promote her project - some positive, some negative - which she might
just see for what it is, constructive criticism which is helpful to
her. As a designer, it is important that she would get a real feel
for the response of her audience to what she designs, even her
website, surely?
And if she delivers on my permanent weeding hoe, she's guaranteed to
become a gazillionnaire, and even more worthwhile, my eternal
gratitude ;-)

Variouys sections are animated - but only when first drawn on your screen.
There are no continuous annoying animations like some sites.

I have to say, i am in not in IT, and to be honest dont know the first thing about website design, so all the technical stuff that has been discussed in this site has gone straight over my head! Thanks for the input though, I had no idea that so many people didnt have flash on their computers. All the best sites are flash. (I am biased in this, my dad is a flash animator!) Unfortunatley I cant change the 'flashiness' of the site as it was created using a web-based design program which is entirely based on flash. I'll bare it in mind for the future though, and maybe actually try to learn dreamweaver or similar. Ive got plenty of time to learn, I am only 20 after all.

Im just glad that although a lot of the talk in this thread has been a little off topic, at least you're talking! Publicity is good.

As for ideas that are coming in, im surprised by the volume of response, so sorry if replies about individual ideas are slow. I'll get back to everyone but it could take a little while! Trying to juggle this project with writing my dissertation and its not easy.

Thankyou for all the positive responses and the critisism, its all helpfull! Holly

I agree. I'm old so my website is staid with no flash or sound or
cartoons or pictures or spelling mistakes - and it's kept up to date. It
does its job but I'd like to have the skill to make one as appealing as

maybe actually try to learn dreamweaver or similar. Ive got plenty of
time to learn, I am only 20 after all.

I use Dreamweaver, it's expensive but very easy - no need for codes (here
the IT purists will find objections but why make things more difficult
