Your site needs some serious work to make it generally usable.

You will get a lot of good advice if you ask the guys over at the
alt.html.critique newsgroup.

Ed, how so as I found it easy to navigate and easy to use? I thought
it was a superb and professional piece of work.

and so say all of us Sacha friends and family, great site and very
tempting. I cant have any more plants as we are hoping to be moving to
Scotland as soon as we sell this one - anyone want a house in sunny
Gloucestershire ? - however I will be picking your brains as and when we get
to where we are going :-)

I strongly urge Sacha to submit the site for critical review at both:

alt.html
alt.html.critique

It will be interesting to see the results if they dare do that!!!

The site does not work under my pc configuration. Other potential
customers will find the same.

And because it is a business site then it needs to work effectively
across all common web browsers otherwise you cut off a lot of potential
trade.

This isn't the place to discusses the technicalities of web page design
and I'm not going there. But if I spent money to people to build this
website, then I would wont a refund!

However, I'd rather talk about how runner beans and early potatoes are
doing this year!

LOL!!

Ed

My runner beans are not doing well how are yours. BTW I still think
it is an ace site and if I wanted to order something, as a potential
customer, I found it easy.

I've marked this thread OT so now we can discuss this here! There are errors
on the site and I certainly find the construction a wee bit baffling - I
think the end result could have been done with far simpler code/CSS.
However, to say it is unusable is overstating the case somewhat. Please give
details. I'm not trying to catch you out, I'm seriously interested in the
details of your argument. There's a chance I may learn something - I will
concede that there are any number of people out there who are better web
developers than I am.

What really makes me mad is the kind of money that can be charged for
building/maintaining a website - I know as I've seen this in practice. Great
websites can be built from the ground up very cost effectively if you know
where to go (which I do!). And it is actually pretty easy to learn basic
HTML/CSS in order to more than adequately maintain a site(as I do).

I would like to make it crystal clear that I put this site's address here
for potential customers to comment upon. It is not and never has been
intended as a training example for other designers and I think it extremely
unfair and wrong for it to be suggested now that it should be used as such.
While I accept this is where your interest lies, Gavin, you do NOT have our
permission to use our site or its builders in this way and you are making
incorrect assumptions, to which we object strongly, about what we are being
charged. You have absolutely no information or knowledge about that.

I am accusing you of nothing more than becoming a little over excited.
This is not a group that discusses web sites and their construction. The
reason I wrote to this group about our work in progress is because it is for
gardeners and I have been a member of the group for a few years before I
married my husband, the owner of the Nursery. Most of the people here can be
relied upon, for me, to give me an honest opinion. Many have known me for
years on group and/or we have met personally.
I am sure that your intentions are entirely straightforward but I would
prefer that you do not use our web site as an experimental or 'teaching'
organ. And I cannot be the only person to have noticed that in your
relatively short post you have thrice recommended yourself as a website
builder on the back of our web site. Again, I would prefer that you don't
use my posts to do that.
Thank you.

Over excited???? I'm not even excited let alone over excited. I don't see
where you ge that idea from. I would say that it is you who has got hot
under the collar.

Correct - hence I was the one that added "OT" to the subject line!

My interntions were to give you the benefit of my knowledge as I work in web
developemnt. But if your mind is closed ot that I won't lose any sleep over
it.

What gives you the idea that I would do that? I don't even know what you
mean. I reall coudn't care less about your little website.

Nope. I haven't recommended myself as a website builder. I don't build
websites. Show me where I have done that once let alone thrice. Please learn
to read, Sacha, before you start accusing people. You know what of what you
speak. Shame.
